Print collateral design by Messy Design with images of distorted faces.

purpose

Our love of typography inspired us to promote its importance in good design, as a creative way to increase brand awareness for Messy Design. It also gave us an opportunity to educate clients about the different ways their brand could be compromised using poor typography.

idea

We used our own faces as a simple way to demonstrate typography best practice. The sealed booklet folded out to reveal four images that were altered to show the pitfalls of poor typography, including bad kerning, incompatible typefaces, bad fonts and stretched typefaces.

Messy design sealed packaging design with warning label.

result

you wouldn’t do it to your face, so why do it to a typeface?

The experimental print project was well received by our clients, as well as attracting international attention for our studio. It was a finalist in the print creative category of Desktop Magazine’s Create Awards and featured in a number of international blogs and print publications.
